German Ambassador Dr. Cyrill Nunn calls on Punjab Chief Minister

Lahore: German Ambassador Dr. Cyrill Nunn called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here today. Matters of mutual interest, promotion of bilateral relations, enhancing cooperation in energy and other sectors were discussed during the meeting.

Talking to the German Ambassador, the Chief Minister said that Pakistan and Germany have deep brotherly relations. He said that Germany is a big trade partner of Pakistan. He said that Germany has expertise in energy sector and Pakistan wants to benefit from German technology. He said that Pakistan Muslim League-N government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is making serious efforts for overcoming shortage of electricity. He said that power production from solar project of 100 megawatt completed in a record period at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur is continuing successfully and this project has been set up by Punjab government with its resources. He said that a further 350 megawatt electricity will be generated at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park this year while 550 megawatt next year.

The Chief Minister said that the German consultant has shown excellent performance with regard to solar project. He said that besides paying special attention to generation of electricity from alternative sources, it has also been decided to set up projects of 3600 megawatt electricity from gas. He said that 2400 megawatt power projects will be set up by the federal government while 1200 megawatt projects by Punjab government with its own resources.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the cooperation of German companies in energy sector will be welcomed. He said that sincere efforts being made for generation of electricity during the tenure of PML-N government are unprecedented in the country’s history and a number of projects of power generation will be operational by 2017-18.

German Ambassador while speaking on the occasion said that Germany wants to promote its relations with Pakistan and steps will be taken for promotion of cooperation with Punjab government in energy and other sectors.
