Lahore: Advisor to Chief Minister on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that control over rapidly increasing population is essential for coping with health issues. He said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced historic package of 1.5 billion rupees for the specialist doctors of District and Tehsil Head Quarters hospitals.
He was addressing at the inauguration of breast clinic at Lady Aitchison Hospital. Medical Superintendent Dr. Samina Jabeen as well as a large number of doctors and nurses were present on the occasion.
Dr. Samina Jabeen told that 40 thousand women become victim to cancer in Pakistan annually. She said that breast cancer is a curable disease if the problem is diagnosed at the initial stage but due to social attitude, women do not get themselves examined as result of which the disease reaches the last stage and becomes incurable. She said that best breast screening of the patients will be conducted at breast clinic set up at Lady Aitchison Hospital if the tumor is detected in ultrasound, the patient will be referred to the government hospital. She said that mammography machine will also be provided by the government for the clinic.
Kh. Salman Rafique said that there are a number of health problems and besides provision of medical facilities; control over population is also of vital importance. He said that government is taking historic measures for the development of health sector. He said that Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has given approval to pay package of Rs. 1.5 billion for the specialist doctors of district and Tehsil headquarters hospitals. Kh. Salman Rafiq asked MS of Lady Aitchison Hospital to send development schemes for the hospital in writing to the health department so that it could be included in the next year budget.
While addressing inaugural ceremony after the renovation of children emergency ward by a well-to-do family at Sheikh Zayed Hospital Advisor to Chief Minister on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafique has said all out resources will be provided for making Sheikh Zayed Hospital a state of the art institution. He said that after up-gradation of the hospital, new operation theatres will soon become functional through which treatment and surgery facilities will further increase for the patients.
Chairman Sheikh Zayed Hospital Prof. Fareed Ahmed Khan, Administrator Dr. Akbar Hussain, Prof. Bangash, senior doctors and persons of a philanthropist family were also present on the occasion. Kh. Salman Rafiq said that financial cooperation for development projects by philanthropists in government hospitals reflects their confidence in government institutions. He said that government highly values the charity by wealthy people. Kh. Salman Rafiq said that Liver Transplantation Department is being up-graded at Sheikh Zayed Hospital and local doctors will carry out liver transplantation. Chairman Prof. Fareed Ahmed Khan said that he has set up a fund for the treatment of poor patients in the hospital for which he himself donated five lakh rupees. Dr. Fareed Ahmed Khan further said such a system is being evolved in Sheikh Zayed Hospital that at least emergency services could be provided to the patients free of cost. He said that upper storey of Sheikh Zayed Hospital has been completed and steps are being taken for making theatres operational and wards functional at the earliest. Head of the philanthropist family, Ansar Munir who borne the expenses of renovation of pediatric ward said that well-to-do people of the society, instead of looking towards the government, should discharge their social responsibilities and come forward for serving the ailing humanity. He said that his family will bear the expenses of constructing a waiting room for the patients.
