Lahore: Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan has said that the importance of supplementary reading is vital and only those nations have progressed which involved themselves in reading, writing and learning new knowledge. He said that the Punjab government is working a lot to improve the curriculum and textbooks to inculcate passion of reading among students. Moreover, topics against increasing intolerance in society will also be included in the curriculum.
He expressed these views here today in a ceremony titled “Unblocking the Power of Reading” organized by Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) and Dubai Cares. EDO Education Lahore Pervaiz Akhtar, ITA Director Programmes Dr. Baela Raza Jamil and a large number of teachers and students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the students, the Minister said that the menace of poverty, unemployment and ignorance can be eliminated through power of knowledge.
Today’s ceremony is a proof to the fact that we love knowledge, peace and harmony, he added. He said it is vision of Chief Minister Punjab that Pakistani students excel in every sphere of life.
The government is using all available resources to provide missing facilities in schools, he added. The students told the Minister about improvement in their respective institutions.
The Minister said that he himself will adopt a school of his constituency under the programme of “Parho Punjab—Barho Punjab”. He also read out a poem of renowned poet Amjad Islam Amjad and explained its meaning to the students.
ITA Director said that the ceremony has been organized to promote the culture of reading among the children and enhance their capability to think with creativity. She said that students should feel confident as Minister for Education is with them on the path to knowledge. Students of different schools also read out poems and stories on the occasion.
