Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that protection of life and property of the people is responsibility of the state and all out measures are being taken in this regard. He directed the concerned departments to discharge their duties with regard to law & order in a coordinated manner. He said that complete implementation on the prescribed security plan should be ensured. The Chief Minister said that Safe City Project is of paramount importance regarding law & order. He said that the work on this project costing billions of rupees should be carried out speedily. He said that besides Lahore, Safe City Project will also be started in Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the elimination of terrorism, extremism and sectarianism is the voice of the entire nation. He said that decisive war is being fought against terrorism, extremism and sectarianism on every front. He said that immediate and effective steps are being taken in Punjab under National Action Plan. He said that National Action Plan is a unanimous formula for purging the country of menace of terrorism and effective implementation on it is yielding positive results.
He said this while presiding over a high level meeting here today in which overall law & order situation, security arrangements and implementation on the steps taken under National Action Plan in the province were reviewed in detail. The meeting decided to set up Punjab Safe City Authority and expressed its satisfaction over the steps for eradication of terrorism taken under National Action Plan.
The Chief Minister directed that all necessary steps should be taken for further improving the security of important places all over the province and a watchful eye should be kept on mischievous elements. He said that effective monitoring of security arrangements should be carried out continuously. He said that Cabinet Committee should review implementation on security arrangements and monitoring system regularly. He said that Safe City Project is of special importance with regard to law & order, therefore, it has been decided to establish Punjab Safe City Authority.
Shahbaz Sharif directed Cabinet Committee to immediately prepare a draft law for establishing Punjab Safe City Authority. He further directed that indiscriminate action should be continued against wall-chalking, distribution and publication of literature spreading religious hatred and violation of ban on use of loudspeaker.
Provincial Ministers Col. Retd. Shuja Khanzada, Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Members Provincial Assembly Rana Sanaullah, Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Special Assistant Rana Maqbool, Chairman Lahore Transport Company, Kh. Ahmed Hassan, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, concerned secretaries and senior officials of law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.
