12th National Women Baseball Championship starts at Punjab Football Stadium

Lahore: Sports Board Punjab (SBP) did great efforts for the revival of sports in Punjab and other regions of the country. Government of Punjab will send the shining players and coaches abroad for further training and will extend every possible help to potential athletes; these views were expressed by Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar while addressing the media at the inaugural ceremony of 12th National Women Baseball Championship at Punjab Football Stadium here on Friday.

The one-day National Women Baseball Championship is being organized under the auspices of SBP. Earlier, President Pakistan Federation Baseball Syed Khawar Shah and Chairman Punjab Baseball Association Moazzam Khan welcomed DG SBP Usman Anwar, who was the Chief Guest, at Punjab Stadium. All the participating teams were also introduced with the chief guest.

Talking to media, DG Usman Anwar said that SBP has been making consistent efforts for the sports promotion as per the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif. “Baseball has been considered as a new game in Pakistan and it’s a heartening sign that our female players from across the country are taking part in National Baseball Championship,” he elaborated.

“The participation of all provincial teams in the baseball event is a clear sign that SBP has been successful in its efforts to lure the youth towards sporting activities,” he added.

To a question about the participation of women in upcoming Punjab International Sports Festival (PISF), Usman Anwar informed the media that woman players will feature in five sports in the grand international activity.

DG SBP Usman Anwar, who was the chief guest at the opening ceremony, encouraged the young players to do hard work and earn laurels for the motherland. “Pakistan is enriched with the plenty of sports potential and there’s no reason our athletes can’t win world titles in any sport,” he added.

Chairman Punjab Baseball Association Moazzam Khan, in his welcome address, thanked the DG SBP for extending all possible help for the holding of National Women Baseball Championship. Later, Syed Khawar Shah and Moazzam Khan presented a souvenir to DG SBP Usman Anwar.
