Lahore: Acting Punjab Governor/Chancellor Punjab University Rana Muhammad Iqbal has said that knowledge was a must for progress and development of any country and the government would promote education to make Pakistan’s future brighter.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Pakistan’s largest book fair being organized by Punjab University administration at the corridors of Institute of Education and Research (IER) here on Thursday.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Registrar Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Principal University Law College Prof Dr Shazia Qureshi, Resident Officer 1 Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, President Academic Staff Association Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam, Chief Librarian Haseeb Ahmed Paracha, senior journalists, doctors, lawyers, students and people from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
Talking to media, Mr Iqbal said that the government would ensure peace in the country by eliminating terrorism. He said that such book fairs must be organized to promote reading habits in the society. He said that he was pleased to see a huge reservoir of books on Islam, history, literature and various other topics in the book fair which was a great opportunity for book lovers. He lauded PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran for organizing book fair in a tremendous way and said such steps should be taken continuously to provide books on low prices.
During his visit, the acting governor took special interest in the books published by PU Department of Press & Publications. Talking to media, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the importance of books would remain intact forever and the charm which was felt in reading a book was not in reading an e-book. He advised the students to master their subjects and adopt reading habits. Renowned Journalist/Analyst Hassan Nisar and social worker Raja Munawar also visited PU’s Book Fair and congratulated Dr Mujahid Kamran on organizing a fruitful academic event.
On the first day of the book fair, a large number of people thronged book stalls and purchased books of their interest on reasonable rates. Upto 70 percent discount is being provided in the book fair. The book fair would continue till Saturday April 4.
