Hameeda Waheed inaugurates daycare center at University of Engineering and Technology

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed ud Din has said that daycare centers are being set up in various institutions at a cost of Rs. 200 million during current financial year for facilitating working women.

She was speaking at the inauguration of daycare center set up with the cooperation of Women Development Department at University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmed Khalid, Dean Prof. Ghulam Abbas Anjam, Registrar Muhammad Asif, faculty members besides a large number of students were present.

The Minister said that women constitutes 52 percent of population and are rendering invaluable services in medical, engineering, army, police, IT, media and other sectors.  She said that Punjab government is establishing daycare centers for working women throughout the province under a phased programme. Hemeeda Waheed ud Din said that 11 daycare centers have been inaugurated from March to to-date. She said that international standards have been kept in view in the setting up of daycare centers and trained staff has been posted for the care of children ageing between four months to four years.

Hameeda Waheed ud Din while informing about the measures for empowerment of women and providing them legal protection said that on the International Women’s Day on March 8, five bills for protection of women rights were passed by the Punjab Assembly which will directly benefit the women. She said that government has ensured share of women in inherited property, setting up of family courts, ban on marriage of a girl below 16 years of age and correct filling of all columns of Nikah Nama.

Hameeda Waheed ud Din said that women are very hard working and talented and playing an important role in national development. She also informed about the helpline 0800-93372 set up by Women Development Punjab for women. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmed Khalid highlighted the activities of the university and aims and objectives of daycare centers. He appreciated the government over setting up of daycare centers. Later, the Minister inaugurated daycare centre and inspected its various sections.
