Lahore: Muhammad Bahdur, an intermediate student, has won the 5000 Meters Race, at the second day of the 115th Annual Sports of Government College University, Lahore which was marked by the athletic competitions among students.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, GCU Sports Board Chairman Prof Dr Ikram ul Haq, Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan and other senior faculty members gave away medals to the winning students and departmental teams.
Addressing the participants, the Vice Chancellor said that the real beauty of their annual sports lied in the collective participation of students, teachers and Old Ravians.
Later, Mohsin Naveed of Urdu Department won the 400-metre Hurdle Race by putting his endurance to test; finishing the race in 01:08:28 seconds. However, in 100 Metres final, Tariq Mahmood of Urdu Department reached the finishing line in 11:16 seconds which earned him a Gold Medal. Muhammad Salman, Rezwana Khan, and Hamza Butt won the Discus-Throw, Short Put (girls) and Triple Jump competitions. Physical Education Department’s girls’ team won 4×100 Meters Relay. A team of GCU Sports Department won the 4×100 Metres Staff Relay Race. The most enthralling Gymkhana events of GCU Annual Sports which include the famous Chatti Race for Girls, Ministerial Staff Race, Naib Qasid Race, Four Legged Race, Cricket Throw Ball for Girls, Pillow Fighting, Staff Children Race, Stilt Race, 60-Metre Race, Sack Race, and Obstacle Race will be held today (Sunday) at GCU Oval Ground. Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony in which Old Ravians would also participate.
