Lahore: Pakistan will host Free Style Polo Asia Cup in May this year as part of upcoming Punjab International Sports Festival 2015.
As many as eight teams including Afghanistan, Nepal, India, UAE, Thailand, Pakistan A, Pakistan Gilgit Red and Pakistan Gilgit Green will feature in the historic tournament which will be played at Race Course Aibak Polo ground from May 9 to 18, 2015
In this regard, an important meeting was held between Director Sports Gilgit Baltistan Hussain Ali and Waqas Akbar, Assistant Director Sports Board Punjab on Thursday.
Talking to media, Hussain Ali informed that Free Style Polo was a regional sport of Gilgit Baltistan and has been quite popular in several countries of the world. “Hundreds of tourists visited Gilgit Baltistan and Shindor every year only to watch Free Style Polo tournament,” he added.
He said that the inclusion of Free Style Polo in International Sports Festival will have dual advantage. “It will add an additional flavour in the grand international event besides making good name of the country in the world,” he elaborated.
Praising the role of Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, Hussain Ali said that DG SBP had a prominent role in organizing several world class sports events not only in Punjab but other regions as well.
Director Sports Gilgit Baltistan said that Pakistan polo team will offer reasonable performance in the Free Style Polo Asia Cup. “We are quite upbeat that our team will win gold medal in the elite tournament,” he expressed his hope.
