A mega corruption scam unearth in Tehsil Municipal Administration Jhelum

Lahore: An embezzlement of three crore rupees has been unearthed in transfer of property tax only in a financial year during the scrutiny of financial matters of Tehsil Municipal Administration Jhelum. Cases have been registered with Anti-Corruption Establishment against corrupt officials whereas honest officials have been posted in TMA.

This was disclosed by DCO Jhelum Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghuman while addressing a function arranged by TMA. He said that after elimination of corruption from TMA Jhelum, payment of pension has been made to 26 retired employees of TMA deprived of pension for the last five years. He said that payment of pension to retired employees reflects the improvement in financial matters of TMA.

Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghuman told that in 2008-09, TMA Jhelum used to collect four crore rupees only in the head of transfer of property tax which gradually decreased to Rs. 1.02 crore. He said that an inquiry committee was constituted which unearthed a corruption of three crore rupees only in a financial year in transfer of property tax and cases have been registered with Anti-Corruption Establishment against corrupt officials.

DCO Jhelum Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghuman told that inquiry committee identified shortage of Rs. 2.80 crore in transfer of property tax in 2014-15. He said that corruption has been eliminated due to the steps of district government. He said that Jhelum will be made dust-free city and provision of potable water will be ensured. Administrator TMA Jhelum Imran Raza Abbasi, district officers of various departments and retired employees of TMA were present on the occasion.
