Lahore: A 2-day Punjab University’s 118th Intercollegiate athletic meet began here at New Campus Ground on Thursday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Acting Director Sports Shamsa Hashmi, Chairman Hall Council Dr Muhammad Akhtar, officials and a large number of players from affiliated colleges were present on the occasion.
PU Teaching Department’s (PUTD) Adnan Jahangir broke 40 year old record of long jump which previously set by Saeed Akhtar Tattla of GCU Faisalabad in 1975. On his extraordinary achievement, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran announced Rs 20, 000 for athlete Adnan Jahangir.
Various competitions of race, discus throw, hammer throw, long jump etc were held in the event. Talking to the media, the VC said that sports played important role in character building. He advised the participants to take part in co-curricular activities besides their routine studies.
On the first day PUTD’s Musawar-ur-Rehman clinched 1stposition, Majid Ali and Bilal Haider Hanif Akhwan Science College Burki got 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in 15, 000 meter race. Muhammad Yaisr from Akhwan Science College got 1st position, PUTD’s Khuzran Khan grabbed 2nd and Ismat Ullah from Govt College Jhang got 3rd position in throwing the discuss.
Similarly, PUTD’s Muhammad Zahid clinched 1st and Akhwan Science College Burki’s Sajid Ali and Muhammad Yasir grabbed 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in throwing the hammer.
In long jump competition PUTD’s Adnan Jahangir and Farhan Shah clinched 1st and 2nd positions respectively while Umar Farooq from Govt. College Jhang got 3rd position. PUTD’s Musawar-ur-Rehman got 1st position while Majid Ali and Ghulam Hussain from Akhwan Science College Burki clinched 2nd and 3rd positions in 5000 meter race.
Muhammad Shafiq from Chemical Engineering & Emerging Technology’s Muhammad Shafiq clinched 1st positon while PUTD’s Muhammad Nasir and Shah Behram got 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in 400 meter race. The event will be concluded on Friday (today)
