Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the worst conspiracy in the history of Pakistan was hatched under the garb of sit-ins and the drama of containers continued in Islamabad for four and half months.
He was addressing a meeting of provincial parliamentary party of PML-N at Chief Minister’s Office, here today.
However, he said, with the grace of Allah and the prayers of the nation, the attempt to topple the democratically elected government badly failed. He said that announcements were made from containers of ‘Gherao and Jalao’ and to occupy parliament while graves were also dug out during this drama. He said that sit-ins caused a huge loss to nation economy while the image of the country was tarnished at diplomatic level. He said that the visit of the Chinese president was postponed and the process of investment was hampered due to these negative activities.
He said that the elements staging sit-ins crossed all limits for the achievement of their selfish designs totally disregarding interests of the country. He said that the precious time of the nation was wasted through sit-ins but Pakistan Muslim League-N government, led by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will work day and night for the solution of energy crisis, elimination of terrorism and extremism and coping with other issues and no effort will be spared in the service to the masses.
The Chief Minister said that a heinous conspiracy was hatched in the form of sit-ins on August 14, 2014 and its roots were in London where meetings had already been held. He said that the purpose of the conspiracy was to overthrow the elected government of PML-N and to cause damage to the country. He said that billions of rupees were collected for this purpose and it was the worst conspiracy in the history of Pakistan. However, he said, the elements who were trying to undermine the elected government, under the garb of sit-ins, faced disappointment and this conspiracy failed due to the grace of Allah Almighty and the support of the nation.
He said that PML-N government was given a heavy mandate by the masses in general elections of May 2013 but some elements tried to hamper the process of national progress and prosperity through negative activities only one year after the elections. He said that the negative impact on the country left by sit-ins is still being felt. He said that the politics of sit-ins and protest last year caused an irreparable loss to the country and the visit of the Chinese President to Pakistan which was scheduled for September was postponed.
Shahbaz Sharif said that there is no doubt that China is a trustworthy friend of Pakistan and the friendship between the two countries is deeper than oceans, sweeter than honey, higher than Himalayas and stronger than steel. He said that the agreements worth billions of rupees aimed at cooperation in energy, infrastructure and other sectors were later singed in Beijing instead of Islamabad and the only reason was the politics of sit-ins. He said that the projects in energy, infrastructure and other sectors were delayed only because of sit-ins and the process of national development and prosperity was hindered. He said that the elements engaged in negative activities wasted the precious time of the nation and did not care for the interest of the country or the welfare of the common man. He said that the image of the country was tarnished due to sit-ins while development projects were delayed and the process of foreign investment was also stopped.
The Chief Minister said that politics of sit-ins shook the foundations of the country and it was an evil conspiracy to destroy Pakistan. He said that the agreements with China in energy, infrastructure and other sectors which were to be signed in Islamabad were inked in Beijing and these projects included coal-based energy projects in Sahiwal, solar project of 900 megawatts in Bahawalpur and others.
Referring to the development of Punjab and provision of facilities to the masses, the Chief Minister said that Pakistan’s biggest 100 megawatts solar project in Bahawalpur has been completed within six months and this project has been set up by Punjab government with its own resources. He said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will soon inaugurate this project. He said that reserves of precious minerals have been discovered in Chiniot-Rajwa.
He said that PML-N government has saved this project from the corruption of former rulers of dictatorial era and now these reserves will be utilized for the welfare and progress of the masses. He said that former rulers tried to rob this project and these precious deposits were sold to a so-called company at throwaway price.
However, he said, PML-N government foiled this attempt and presented this treasure to the people. He said that the precious mineral deposits found at Chiniot-Rajwa are not the property of only ten crore people of Punjab but they belong to 18 crore people of the country and it is a gift of Allah Almighty.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that billions of rupees are being spent on the welfare of the masses and the projects of provision of education, health and other basic facilities to the citizens. He said that potable water will be made available in all tehsils of Punjab by 2017 under Saaf Pani Project while under Khadim-e-Punjab Green Road Programme billions of rupees are being utilized for the development of rural areas during current year. He said that foundation stone of metro bus project in Multan will soon be laid while inaugural ceremony of Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus will be held next month. He said that PML-N government has served the masses selflessly during the last six and a half years and the culture of merit, transparency and speedy completion of development projects has been promoted in the province. He said that no one can accuse the government of corruption of even a single penny. He said that the golden principles of honesty, trust and hard work will be adopted to achieve the goal of national progress and prosperity.
The Chief Minister said that it is the need of the hour to change the existing obsolete system. He said that no effort will be spared for the completion of energy projects and all out resources will be provided to extend relief to the citizens.
The Chief Minister further said that during all his tenures, he has utilized public funds considering them a sacred trust. He said that work on energy projects is being carried out round the clock and maximum resources will be provided for the completion of these projects on priority basis. He said that the time of delivering speeches has gone by and now it the moment to give results. He said that work is also being carried out on the generation of power from LNG as 1200 megawatt electricity can be produced in Punjab through LNG. He said that 1200 megawatt power will be generated during next two and half years. He said that simplicity and austerity will be adopted and the funds thus saved will be spent on power generation projects.
Shahbaz Sharif said that he will go anywhere for acquiring electricity. He said that there is a need to promote team spirit and work hard to set new records of public service in the province. He said that he will make his best efforts for the completion of power projects and elected representatives will have to play an active role in this regard so as to change the destiny of the nation.
The Chief Minister said that he is sure that if elected representatives dedicated themselves to the service of the people and worked as a team, darkness will be removed from the country and the future generations will feel proud of them. He said that he firmly believes that there is a lot of talent in the parliamentarians and this talent should be utilized for the welfare and uplift of the common man.
Referring to the Peshawar tragedy, the Chief Minister said that 150 innocent children and teachers were subjected to the worst brutality in a Peshawar school on December 16, 2014 and the nation is still grieved at this unprecedented incident of savagery in the recent history. However, he said, due to the sacrifice of innocent children, the nation has become united in the war against terrorism.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that billions of rupees are being utilized in Punjab for the eradication of terrorism, extremism and sectarianism and modern technology is also being used for this purpose. He said that the menace of terrorism will be rooted out with the force of national unity and the time is not far when problems of the people of the country will be replaced with joys and relief. Member Provincial Assembly Inam Ullah Khan Niazi announced to join PML-N on this occasion.
Shahbaz Sharif welcomed Inam Ullah Niazi in the party. Provincial Ministers, Advisors, Special Assistants, Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, PML-N candidates for senate election and a large number of Members of the Punjab Assembly were present on the occasion.
