Lahore: Punjab University Academic Staff Association executive council leaders addressing a press conference have said that IJT activists have abducted and brutally tortured Institute of Agricultural Sciences’ (IAGS) lecturer Nadeem Shad late on Thursday and detained him illegally for several hours.
They called upon Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to immediately take strict notice of the issue and take stern action against the culprits involved in the incident to ensure safety of teachers on campus. While talking to media at IAGS along with Mr Shad, ASA executive council members Dr Mahboob Hussain, Dr Faheem Aftab, Dr Muqeet Javed, Dr Abid Chaudhry, Dr Sardar Asghar and others strongly condemned the episode and said that it was the traditional practice of IJT goons to misbehave and torture teachers.
They said that IJT’s past was full of such incidents and there was need to control its hooliganism. They said that this was a sensitive issue and it was the time for the government to seriously take notice and intervene to protect respect of teachers. They called upon Mian Shahbaz Sharif to purge university from such terrorists. Narrating the incident, lecturer Nadeem Shad said that he was serving IAGS as since 7 years and was on his way to home late on Thursday situated at Barkat Market after having his dinner at Moon Market when he was intercepted near Campus bridge by a few IJT activists.
He said that the IJT goons summoned another 5 activists who tortured him and abducted him on gunpoint. He said that they took him to a tent behind Jamia Mosque as they had broken locks of the gate and tortured him with iron rods. He said IJT activists had also snatched his CNIC, university card, ATM and cash. He said that the IJT activists detained him for several hours as well.
He also showed his wounds to media on the occasion. Police have registered an FIR on his application in which the complainant had named IJT activists including Hafiz Abdul Muqeet, Behram Saeed and over a dozen unknown persons.
