Lahore: A state of the art combined academic block will be constructed in engineering university, Taxila with an amount of Rs. 197 million. The building, which will be completed in two years, will house environmental engineering, industrial engineering, electronics engineering, engineering management and basic sciences departments.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was held today with chairman of Punjab Education Foundation and Standing Committee on Education Qamar ul Islam Raja as the Chief Guest.
While addressing the ceremony, Qamar ul Islam said that special emphasis was being given to the promotion of higher education in the province as it is the foundation of national development and prosperity. Adding that Rs. 24 billion was earmarked in current provincial budget for the higher education, he said that universities are the engines of development which accelerates national development through their research and innovation. That’s why the Punjab Government has continuously encouraged research in education.
As many as 6 lakh students are enrolled in various colleges and in order to keep them abreast of the latest changes in education, laptops have been given. Similarly, 105 new colleges were being setup in different districts besides provision of missing facilities in 58 other colleges. Meanwhile, charters have been granted for the establishment of new universities in Punjab.
Qamar ul Islam asked the faculty members to motivate their students to take keen interest in research-based activities to find durable solutions to the problems faced to our trade and industry. In fact, students are our biggest asset against challenges, that’s why the Punjab Government has prioritized education so that Pakistan could achieve its objectives and emerge as the shining example in the comity of nations, concluded Qamar ul Islam.
