Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif visited Elite Police Training School Badian Road for four hours today. He presided over meeting of Punjab Security Council and addressed officers at Civil Secretariat and offices of divisional commissioners through video link. Steps regarding implementation of National Action Plan against Terrorism, security arrangements and overall law & order situation of the province were reviewed in detail during the meeting of Punjab Security Council.
The Chief Minister directed that all possible steps should be taken for effective implementation of National Action Plan Against Terrorism. The meeting gave approval to setting up of vigilance committees at union council level in Punjab whereas vigilance committees will also be constituted at district level. The vigilance committees will work at local level with regard to National Action Plan against terrorism and will discharge responsibilities with regard to ensuring ban on wall chalking, checking of misuse of load speakers, distribution and publication of literature based on religious hatred and objectionable material at local level.
Shahbaz Sharif directed that local personalities of good repute should be included in these committees. He said that the process of effective monitoring of security plan evolved for public and private schools should be continued. He directed that regular monitoring of security arrangements in colleges and universities should also be continued. The meeting decided to recruit ex-army men for security of A-category schools.
The Chief Minister directed concerned officials that process of recruitment should be based on transparency and merit in accordance with the policy of Punjab government. He said that no compromise will be made on security arrangements of educational institutions. He said that all possible steps are being taken for the protection of life and property of people. He said that extraordinary steps have been taken in view of present extraordinary situation.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the entire nation has united for elimination of terrorism. He expressed the hope that the sectarianism, extremism and terrorism will be eliminated through joint efforts and collective wisdom forever. He said that immediate and effective steps have been taken with regard to National Action Plan and necessary legislation will be made for making sentences more deterrent.
The Chief Minister met corporals and appreciated the standard of their modern training. Provincial Ministers Col. Retd. Shuja Khanzada, Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Assembly Members Rana Sanaullah, Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Special Assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretary Home and concerned officials attended the meeting.
