Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is facing most difficult challenge of its history. He said that terrorism and extremism have destroyed the national economy and shaken the foundations of the country. He said that worst kind of terrorism was committed against innocent children in Peshawar and there is no example of such brutality in the present history. He said that every Pakistani is grieved over Peshawar tragedy and the blood of innocent children has united the entire nation.
The Chief Minister said that history has put a great responsibility on Ulema and Mashaikh and they have to discharge this responsibility efficiently. He said that Ulema have to fight the ideological war against terrorism. He said that Ulema and Mashaikh should play their effective role for promoting the sentiments of brotherhood, tolerance and patience in the society.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of prominent Ulema and Mashaikh of various schools of thought, here today.

Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that beasts have killed innocent children in Army Public School, Peshawar and the blood of these martyrs demands us to take revenge. He said that history has provided us a golden opportunity of unity and consensus. He said that the entire nation has united against terrorism, therefore, we should purge the motherland of terrorists by taking full benefit of this opportunity.
The Chief Minister said that the entire nation including military, political and religious leadership is on one page against terrorism. He said that a joint strategy has been evolved with mutual consultation and consensus against terrorism and expressed the hope that through its implementation, terrorism will be eliminated from the country and it will be made a haven of peace.
Shahbaz Sharif said that 18 crore people are looking towards Ulema and Mashaikh and if they played a historic role, it will be remembered by the coming generations forever. He said that we have to march forward with the golden Islamic principles of brotherhood, tolerance, peace and patience. He said that Ulema have to eliminate the open contradiction in the society and we all have to settle our issues jointly by learning a lesson from the past. He said that nation has high hopes and we have to come up to their expectations.
The Chief Minister said that country can be rid of terrorism, extremism and sectarianism by following Uswa-e-Hasna of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). He said that Ulema should promote teaching of socio-economic justice in their sermons. He said that it is high time to come out for the survival of Pakistan. Shahbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan will be made an Islamic welfare state in the real sense by changing the course of history. He said that no one can think of amendment in the blasphemy law. He said that those who are spreading such rumors do not want peace in the country. He said that law is equal for all and Punjab government will take indiscriminate action against distribution of provocative CDs and publication of such literature. He vowed that the shops of those selling literature based on religious hatred will be sealed and they will be sent behind the bar. He warned that no leniency will be shown to those delivering provocative speeches.
