Women Harassment Act 2012 is a welcome step of Punjab government:Ombudswoman Punjab

Ombudswoman Punjab Dr. Mira PhailbusLahore: Ombudswoman Punjab Dr. Mira Phailbus has said that government is taking all out measures for providing representation to women in all sectors of life and job opportunities to them free of harassment.

She said this while addressing a seminar regarding Women Harassment Act 2012 at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, today. President LCCI, Fauzia Waqar Chairperson Punjab Commission of the Status of Women, Members of LCCI and civil society attended in large numbers.

Dr. Mira Phailbus said that there is no dearth of talented women and if they should be provided job opportunities free from harassment, they can play important in the national development. She said that 15 percent quota has been fixed in jobs for empowering women and providing representation to them in every walk of life, which is a clear proof of this fact that government is endeavoruing for their betterment. She said that government has also launched various schemes for the welfare of women so that they could earn their livelihood honourably.

Dr. Mira Phailbus said that Women Harassment Act 2012 is a welcome step of Punjab government in which complete protection is provided to working women from harassment and strict legal action is taken against the elements involved in sexual harassment. She said that Punjab government has started a comprehensive awareness programme in all districts of the province under a phased programme so that women could be apprised of Women Harassment Act 2012 and they could lodge their complaints against the persons involved in sexual harassment and get immediate justice. She told that the awareness programmes regarding Women Harassment Act 2012 have been arranged at Layyah, Okara and Sahiwal districts with the cooperation of district administration and it will be organized in remaining districts under a phased programme.
