Lahore: Provincial Minister for Housing, Communication & Works Malik Tanvir Aslam Awan presided over a meeting which reviewed the losses caused due to fire incidents in various areas of the city. Secretary C&W Mian Mushtaq, DG LDA, DG Rescue-1122, Additional Secretary Ch. Akbar Ahmad, Chief Engineer Tanvir Anwar, Iftikhar Ahmad Randhawa, Chief Architect Zahid Javed Raja and officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.
The meeting decided that such a strategy should be evolved to avoid fire incidents and in case of fire, it should be controlled immediately and losses should be minimized. The meeting proposed that action should be taken against such owners who close the emergent exit points and remove the fire extinguishing equipments.
Provincial Minister said that a committee should be constituted which should conduct survey every month regularly and ensure proper wiring and fire fighting equipments in the plazas. The meeting decided that the owners of the plazas should be bound to provide training to their staff for the protection of precious human lives and minimizing losses in case of fire incidents. In case of negligence, owners of the buildings will be held responsible.
The meeting decided that the owners of newly constructed commercial buildings should be bound to make emergency exit points and install fire fighting equipments. The meeting was told that engineers from Scotland will visit Lahore and impart training to the officials of Civil Defense Department and Building Control Authority.
Malik Tanvir Aslam directed officers to formulate a comprehensive policy in this regard and submit for approval in the next meeting.
