Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab Information Technology Board has shown commendable performance in the promotion of modern technology in the province and IT is being fully utilized in education, health, transport, law & order and other sectors of social development. He directed that seminars should be arranged for promoting awareness about the measures taken for the promotion of information technology and planning should be made for setting up of another information technology park in Lahore.
He was presiding over a high level meeting of members of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) which reviewed administrative and financial affairs of PITB as well as gave approval to various proposals.
Chairman PITB Dr. Umar Saif gave a detailed briefing on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that facility of online admission to 219 colleges of Punjab has been provided through promotion of information technology in the province. He said that e-learning programme has been started in the province under which textbooks have been made available free of charge on website. He said that Information Technology Board is playing an important role in monitoring the programmes of the government and improving the process of provision of services to the citizens.
Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government has set up the first information technology university at government level in Lahore where modern education is being provided. He said that campus of Information Technology University will be set up in Knowledge Park which will be unique in South Asia. The Chief Minister said that government is spending huge resources on the provision of relief and the best services to the masses. He said that metro bus service is a glorious project of public service and best utilization of resources and more than ten crore people have benefited from this facility so far.
The meeting paid tributes to Chairman PITB Dr. Umar Saif and his entire team for their excellent services and the Chief Minister congratulated Dr. Umar Saif and his team on their glorious performance. Chairman PITB Dr. Umar Saif said that Punjab Information Technology Board has achieved tremendous success due to leadership and support of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. He said that Punjab Information Technology Board is working for promotion of information technology in education, health, police and various other departments.
Dr. Umar Saif said that digital monitoring of vaccination process, schools and other institutions is continuing. He said that 75 lakh people have been contacted so far under citizen feedback model. He said that 500 students are acquiring modern education at Information Technology University. He said that Punjab Information Technology Board is also extending cooperation in Hajj operation as well as federal institutions including railways. Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Finance, Secretary Punjab Information Technology Board and members of the Board were present while President “PASHA” Jahan Ara and Prof. Dr. Arshad Ali of NUST attended the meeting through video link.
