Lahore: The game of kabaddi has turned out to be one of the most popular sports of the country in only three years and Sports Board Punjab has a remarkable role in this regard, this was stated by Pakistan kabaddi skipper Shafiq Ahmed Chishti while talking to media on Wednesday.
He said Sports Board Punjab has always played a leading role for the promotion of sports particularly kabaddi. “All credit goes to DG SBP Usman Anwar, who took keen interest in the holding of national and international kabbadi events,” he added.
Chishti further said that Sports Board Punjab played key role in giving new life to kabaddi in the region. “It’s also a strong fact that Pakistan people have emotional attachment with kabaddi which has been considered as mother sport in the Sub-Continent,” he described.
He said that performance national kabaddi team has been satisfactory in the year 2014 of and in the upcoming season, our team will try its best to carve out more notable victories. “SBP has conducted a lengthy training camp for national Kabaddi team prior to World Kabaddi League (WKL) and Kabaddi World Cup. We got some outstanding young players in the camp. The fresh talented boys are no less than an asset for the future of Pakistan kabaddi team,” he informed.
Regarding future of kabaddi in the country, Chishti opined that the future of this game is quite bright in Pakistan. “These days, the game of kabaddi is being played in every nook and corner of the country. That’s why we can say with determination that the future of Kabaddi is brilliant,” he asserted.
He said until a couple of years ago, nobody had an idea about Pakistan’s kabaddi progress and activities at any level. Simply, it was living in a state of complete wilderness. “Then Pakistan kabaddi experienced great upsurge and resultantly, it not only proved its worth within the country but also beyond the boundary within a short span of a few years,” he continued. “In recent past, our strongly-built players exhibited their prowess and kabaddi skills in several part of world including Europe and India”.
“Apart from World Cup and World Kabaddi League (WKL), Pakistan kabaddi team also showed splendid performances in Pak-India Punjab Games and emerged winner with a clear margin which reflected great depth of kabaddi potential in Pakistan,” he concluded.
