Sunni Tehreek activists attack on civil society at Liberty

Lahore: Civil society activists have strongly protested over the attack of Sunni Tehreek’s activists on a peaceful protest & candle light vigil on the death anniversary of late governor Punjab Salman Taseer at Liberty Roundabout today in the evening.

A good number of Civil Society including Salman Taseer’s family members were gathered there as per announced schedule.They lighted the candles in the memory of late Governor Punjab and shouted slogans against the accused Mumtaz Qadri,suddenly a group of youth attacked on them and started beaten the people and media teams too,they also torn the portraits of late Salman Taseer too,an eyewitness told this scriber .

On this sudden attack ,civil society found a save way by running from the scene but later after the escape of the attackers they gathered again and started protested against the police who did not perform his duty of protecting them.

Pakistan Ulema Council has condemned the attack on peaceful members of civil society commemorating Salman Taseer anniversary at Liberty Chowk.

It would be relevant to mention here that it was the fifth anniversary of the late Governor Punjab but first on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
