Lahore: Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin has said that Punjab government is taking solid measures for providing benefit of reduction of prices of petroleum products by decreasing the prices of edible items. He said that the benefit of further reduction of petroleum prices next month will also be provided to the people by decreasing transport fares and prices of essential items.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Price Control, here today. Assembly Members Mian Rafiq, Haji Nawaz, Secretaries of Industry, Transport, Agriculture, Food and other departments as well as senior officials and representatives of police department and special branch attended the meeting. Bilal Yasin told the meeting that due to reduction in prices of petroleum products twice, prices of eatable items have decreased and strengthened. During the briefing, the Minister was told that district administration is taking strict action for ensuring implementation on the reduced petroleum prices and 70 percent complaints of 2089 relating to fares and other issues in various districts has been redressed.
Food Minister directed that the new fares should be displayed at bus stands, wagons and buses. He said that tickets of passengers should also be checked at various places to ensure implementation on reduced fares. The Minister was told that 79 FIRs have been registered against 457 petrol pumps and imposed fine of Rs.35.16 lakh for overcharging whereas 111 petrol pumps were sealed and 23 persons arrested.
The meeting was told that district administration took action to check the trend of increase in price of LPG and ensure to decrease its prices to Rs.150 per kg. He said that violators were fined and arrested. Bilal Yasin directed that immediate effective steps should be taken for controlling price of tomato. He said that due to strict monitoring and effective steps of the government, prices of edible items have reduced.
