Lahore: Provincial Minister for Minorities and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that there is a need to take practical steps unitedly for complete elimination of terrorism and it is necessary to launch awareness campaign at every level in this regard.
He was addressing a provincial conference on “Identifying Hurdles in Protecting Human Rights” held under the aegis of Ministry of Human Rights, Law & Justice and World Vision Pakistan at a local hotel, here today.
Women Members Punjab Assembly, Ulema, lawyers, office-bearers of Human Rights Organizations, Justice(R) Dr. Nasira Javed Iqbal, Aurangzeb Khan, Peter Jacob, Ahmad Munir, Agha Baqir Hussain and Mian Aamir addressed the function. Khalil Tahir Sandhu said that change in social attitudes will have to be started for protection of human rights. He said that education is the only way which can re-organize the society. He said that we can make Pakistan a prosperous country by brightening the future of coming generations.
Khalil Tahir Sandhu explained in detail the steps taken by Punjab government for the welfare and protection of women, children and minorities and added that keeping in view the role of women in socio-economic development, Punjab government has taken practical steps for including 25 thousand women in decision-making process. He said that the process of transfer of inherited properties to women has been made transparent and flaws have been removed. He said that legislation is being made for child marriage.
Moreover, offices are being set up on permanent basis for resolving problems being faced by minorities and human rights in all 36 districts of the province. Khalil Tahir Sandhu said that we all strongly condemn terrorists and those disturbing social peace. He said that minorities’ community will celebrate all functions of Christmas and New Year with simplicity for expressing solidarity with martyrs of Peshawar tragedy.
