Lahore: Punjab University Academic Staff Association took out the largest protest rally in the city against brutal attack on schoolchildren of Army Public School from Undergraduate Study Centre to Institute of Education and Research here on Wednesday.
The rally was led by Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran in which Dean Faculty of Law Prof Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi, Dean Behavioral & Social Sciences Prof Dr Zakria Zakar, Registrar Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Controller Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Resident Officer-I Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmed, Additional Registrar Malik Muhammad Zahir, Acting Treasurer Rao Muhammad Sharif, Chief Medical Officer Dr Nauman Ahmed, ASA members including Dr Abid Hussain, Dr Mehboob Hussain, Dr Faheem Aftab, Dr Muqeet Javed, Farhan Ch, Shabbir Sarwar, a large number of faculty members, employees and thousands of students participated.
The participants were holding banners, posters and placards condemning the brutal attack. Addressing the participants, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said that terrorists could not bring down morale of the nation through such cowardly attacks. He said that the incident had united the nation and the whole nation was standing behind Pakistan Army and rulers against the terrorists. He said that terrorism must be completely eliminated to ensure peace in the country.
He said that the attack was totally against the principles of Islam and international laws according to which attack on children, women and senior citizens was strictly prohibited. He said that the whole nation shared the grief of the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with them. The rally concluded outside Faisal Auditorium with Dua for martyrs, their families and elimination of terrorists from the country. Earlier, a 2-minute silence was observed in all the academic departments of the university to express solidarity with the victims and Fateha was offered for the departed souls.
PU Law College Principal Prof Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi chaired a condolence reference in which all the sportsmen including captains, secretaries of various clubs and a large number of players participated. Punjab University Hailey College of Commerce also passed a unanimous condemnation resolution against the attack.
PU Registrar Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Acting Treasurer Rao Muhammad Sharif, PU Chief Librarian Haseeb Ahmed Paracha, PU Chief Medical Officer Dr Nauman Ahmed also organized condolence references in their departments.
