Lahore: Pakistan men’s kabaddi team, despite being in great sorrow in the wake of shocking school tragedy in Peshawar, continued their winning streak in the on-going Kabaddi World Cup 2014 and trounced Argentina by 45-20 in the last league match at Sports Stadium, Amritsar on Wednesday.
Pakistan players, who were wearing black armbands, took the field with immense grief. Some of the players were literally weeping on the great human loss in the Peshawar school. Prior to the match, both the teams observed one-minute silence to mourn the massive killings of young students in Peshawar.
According to semifinals schedule, Pakistan men’s kabaddi team will clash with Iran in the semifinal match while the national women team will play their semifinal encounter against the strong Indian team. Both the semifinal matches will be played at Kabaddi Stadium, Dirba, Sangrur on December 18 (today).
Pakistan team did not face any problem against Argentina and carved out a thumping triumph. Pakistan raiders and stoppers were in great nick against the South American team. At the interval, Pakistan had a strong 25-9 lead. Argentina players struggled hard throughout the match and collect only 20 points in the 40-minute duration match.
Later, talking to media Pakistan’s top raider Akmal Shahzad Dogar and team Manager Waqas Akbar expressed their heartfelt feelings on the grave tragedy of Peshawar school students. They strongly condemned the vicious and cowardly act of terrorism against the innocent students in Peshawar.
To a question regarding upcoming matches of Kabaddi World Cup, Manager Waqas Akbar said: “Now the tournament has entered in the knockout stage and our players are well prepared for the crucial encounters. Our players have reserved their best performance for the vital knock out matches of the grand event,” he described.
