Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-N Senator Syed Zafar Ali Shah on Sunday said he will try his best to get Article 161 of the Constitution amended so that dams could be built settling energy crisis and water shortages.
He said this while talking to veteran social activist Raja Jahangir Akhtar who is on a hunger strike unto death to get the said clause amended. He is seeking a rectification so that the province or area that contain water reservoir for a dam can get profit from the power generation while presently the province or area having the powerhouse is entitled to get profit.
Syed Zafar Ali Shah, flanked with Malik Shuja said that amendment in the Article 161 is need of the hour; it will help people of Pothohar and Gilgit Baltistan to get profit of hydel power generation which will help overcome poverty. He assured that he will push members of the National Assembly to push for the amendment through a private bill and that he would try for the same in the Senate. “I will try to muster as much support as possible to get Clause (2) of the Article 161 modified as soon as possible” the Senator said.
At the occasion, Akhtar thanked the PML-N leaders for visiting hunger strike camp, supporting his demand and expressing solidarity with him.
