Lahore: Provincial Minister for Food and Chairman Cabinet Price Control Committee, Bilal Yasin has said government is making efforts for ensuring that fruits of democracy should reach the people. He said that government has evolved an effective mechanism of reduction in the prices of daily use items and its aim is to discourage profiteers and hoarders.
He expressed these views while talking to journalists and consumers during his visit to different Sunday bazaars in Lahore today. The Minister said that the prices of edible items have reduced considerably compared to last month while daily use commodities are available at low price in Sunday bazaars and other bazaars.
The Minister informed that government has issued clear instructions to the district administrations to ensure availability of necessary items to the people at affordable rates and not to spare hoarders and profiteers in this regard. He said that people got relief and clear reduction was made in the prices of eatables as well as the fares of public transports due to reduction in prices of petroleum products.
Talking to consumers, Bilal Yasin said that it is top priority of the government to provide daily use items at cheaper rates to the people. He said that the prices of daily use items have further reduced due to expected decrease in the prices of petrol in future. He said that the prices of pulses, rice and sugar have also decreased and these items are available on affordable rates in Sunday and other bazaars.
Bilal Yasin said that district price control committees and magistrates are working efficiently and in this regard government has issued instructions that they should take action against hoarders and profiteers without any discrimination and besides imposing fines they should also be arrested.
