Lahore: Ombudsman Punjab, Javed Mahmood has taken notice on starting process of recruitment in police department, ignoring the heirs of martyrs of police and officials died while in service, for legal right of recruitment under Rule 17-A of Punjab Civil Service Rules 1974, since four years. Ombudsman Punjab has decided to personally probe the matter and issued notice to Inspector General Punjab Police to submit a report in this regard. Advisor Ombudsman Punjab Zia ur Rehman is directed to coordinate the process of inquiry of the issue.
According to details, heirs of martyrs of police and officials died while in service lodged a complaint to Ombudsman Punjab Javed Mahmood that according to Rule 17-A of the Punjab Civil Service Rules 1974, they were entitled to get recruitment in the department and no advertisement in newspapers was required for the purpose.
Recruitment under Rule 17-A could be made even during ban imposed on general recruitment but they are being deprived of their legal right since four years without any justification. The complaint said that legal heirs of police shuhda’s were running from pillar to post to get their legitimate right and every time they were informed about non-availability of vacant seat. They approached concerned DPO offices, Regional Police Offices and even IG Punjab office but in vain.
Now Punjab Police is recruiting officials, ignoring them totally and advertisement in this regard is published in national dailies which mean the posts were lying vacant in the department and they were being misguided by the authorized officers, said the complaint. Ombudsman Punjab Javed Mahmood while taking the notice of the maladministration on the part of police department has directed Inspector General Punjab Police to submit a report and Advisor Zia ur Rehman is assigned to coordinate the inquiry proceeding.
