Lahore: Provincial Minister for Special Education Asif Saeed Manhais has said that government is taking all possible steps for rehabilitation of special children so that they could be able to discharge their responsibilities themselves instead of becoming burden on the society.
He was addressing laptops distribution ceremony among special children in connection with World Disabled Day here today. Director Special Education Shahid Abbas, Deputy Director Muhammad Irshad, Zahid Siddiqui, Zahida Naseem, besides teachers, parents and students attended the function in large numbers.
Asif Saeed Manhais said that special children are asset of the nation who cannot be ignored. He said that although Allah Almighty has deprived of special children of some abilities yet He has also bestowed them such abilities as are not found in a normal person. He said that Punjab government has set up a special committee for providing facilities to the special children and persons. The Provincial Minister said that besides free education in special educational institutions and other facilities, government will also provide financial assistance to special children enabling them to earn their livelihood. He said that government has paved a way by distributing laptops among special children in this regard.
Asif Saeed Manhais said that civil society and NGOs should lend helping hand to the government in providing education and rehabilitation of special children so that they could spend their lives as per normal children. Later, special children presented colourful programmes including speech contests, puppet show, magic show and face paintings. The Minister appreciated the performance of the children.
Later, Asif Saeed Manhais also attended the launching ceremony of Trans Referential IRT Research Model of Teratology arranged with the cooperation of UNESCO and SAARC at Higher Education Commission. He said that the research study will help in understanding and resolving mental and other problems of the children before and after birth. He also assured cooperation of the government to UNESCO and SAARC Academic Alliance in this regard.
