PU celebrates world GIS day

Lahore: Punjab University Geographical Information System Centre organized a ceremony to celebrate world GIS day with zeal here on Wednesday. Director GIS Centre Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, representatives of WWF, DSPATIO, Urban Unit, Government College University, FC College University, various government organizations and private companies, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion. Addressing the ceremony, Prof Dr Sajid Rashid said that GIS played important role not only in defense of a country but also in various sections of everyday life but people were unaware of its importance. He said that students would learn from their interaction with professional companies and enhance their capabilities. On the occasion, teachers and students presented their projects regarding GIS’ role in everyday life. Later, a cake-cutting ceremony was also held outside the centre.
