A Pakistani Petroleum Exploration company drills first well in Morocco

Lahore: Petroleum Exploration (Pvt) Ltd (PEL), a Pakistani private sector, Oil & Gas Exploration and Production company in collaboration with ONHYM, a Moroccan National Petroleum Company, has commenced drilling of the first exploratory well in Haha-2 Block, in Morocco at Tamanar-1 Well site, which is about 70 KM from Essaouira city, in a ceremony attended by Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Moroccan Minister for Energy, Mines, Water & Environment Dr. Abdelkader Amara , says a report received from Rabat here today.

PEL is exploring hydrocarbons in three Haha Blocks, spread over an area of over 5000 Sq km, in joint venture with Moroccan State Petroleum Company ONHYM. A high-tech, 1500 HP, electrically driven rig, manufactured by a world’s renowned Chinese company Forpetro has been imported from China to Morocco for the project.

Addressing the ceremony the Chairman & Chief Executive of PEL, Mr. Zaheeruddin appreciated the support and cooperation extended by the Governor of Essaouira, the Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, Kingdom of Morocco and ONHYM Officials and the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Government of Pakistan for their presence at the ceremony.
