Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute of international standard is being set up in Lahore

Lahore: Advisor on Health Kh. Salman Rafiq has said that on the direction on Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) of international standard is being set up in Lahore for which government has allotted 50 acre land adjacent to Knowledge Park on Badian Road. He said that 20 acre land  has also been allocated for cancer hospital which will be constructed alongside kidney center.

He disclosed this while presiding over the first meeting of Provincial Steering Committee for construction of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute at Civil Secretariat today.Secretary Health Punjab Jawad Rafique Malik,Member Board of Governors PKLI Sheikh Ameen, senior officers of P&D, Finance, Higher Education, Housing & Urban Development Departments, LDA, LESCO, Sui Northern Gas, C&W and other concerned departments attended the meeting. The meeting decided that Steering Committee will visit site within next few days and after that a technical committee will be constituted. The meeting decided to immediately take steps for external development at the site which
included construction of roads, sewerage system, setting up of grid station and landscaping.

Kh. Salman Rafiq said that a separate master plan of 50 acre land should be prepared which will be made keeping in view the requirements of Kidney and Lever Institute. Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq said that the Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif wants early completion of this project and work on this project will have to be carried out at fast track. He also directed to immediately set up container office at the site so that all concerned departments could hold their meetings in connection with construction of building.

Kh. Salman Rafiq said that the patients will not have to go abroad after setting up of Pakistan Kidney and LeverInstitute and treatment facilities of international standard will be available in the institute. He said that a ter PKLI, a cancer hospital will be constructed on 20 acre land. He said that a Trust is being constituted for the establishment of Pakistan Kidney and Lever Institute and a summary has been sent to Chief Minister for approval. He told that the construction of the institute will be completed within 18 months.
