Lahore: Punjab Government has constituted a 9-member special committee which will recommend necessary amendments in the Police Laws to ensure recruitment of sportsmen and sportswomen in the Punjab Police.
This was revealed by Punjab Minister for Education and Sports, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan while presiding over a meeting of Hockey Reforms Committee, here today. Additional IG Police (Finance and Development) Sohail Khan presented a draft of Amended Article 7 of the Police Order 2002 in the meeting.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan informed the meeting that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif wants to promote sports culture in the province. He said that special attention is being paid to provide funds and necessary services for the development of infrastructure for the promotion of sports. He said that hockey is national sport of Pakistan and under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, serious efforts were made for the promotion of hokey last year as a result of which Pakistan National Hockey Team won silver medal in Asian Games. He said that Punjab Chief Minister has issued instructions for evolving a mechanism regarding induction of outstanding young players of hockey, kabaddi, athletics, wrestling, bodybuilding, soft ball and other sports to various posts in General Executive Branch of the Punjab Police. This task will be accomplished as soon as possible after making necessary amendments in the Police Order 2002, the Minister concluded.
