Controlling increasing population is utmost essential for progress:Begum Zakia Shahnawaz

Minister PopulationLahore: Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that controlling increasing population is utmost essential for lessening the burden on national resources and providing best facilities to the people.

She was addressing a seminar on “youth are future asset” held in connection with world population day under the aegis of population welfare department at a local hotel here today.

Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that youth play an important role in the development of the country. She said that world population day highlights various aspects regarding problems relating to population.She said that this year’s topic “youth are future asset” provides guidance and awareness among the youth about start of married life. She said that counseling of wife and husband is essential for controlling population.

Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that we have to give preference to family planning for the health of family. She said that besides government, civil society, international and local NGOs and people associated with medical profession should increase their efforts in this regard so that best facilities of public health could be provided to the people. She said that despite limited resources, government is endeavoring for providing best facilities of life. She said that media and civil society can play an important role for overcoming the problems of population.

Wasif Nagi, Dr. Muhammad Hafeez, Allama Shahzad Mujaadi, Secretary Youth Affair, Country Director Ann Kelly besides officers of district population welfare, EDOs attended and addressed the seminar.

Secretary Population Welfare Altaf Aizad Khan presented a review about the development and population in Punjab and said that on the instruction of Chief Minister Punjab, a 10-member ulema board has been constituted which will create awareness among the youth about the problems of increasing population.
