Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has condemned the Paisa 52 per unit raise in the electricity tariff and said the sole agenda of the present regime was to burden the masses instead providing them any relief.
Commenting on the government decision, Liaqat Baloch said that the argument that the raise would not apply to the consumers using up to fifty units per month, was a crude joke. He said the PML(N) government had been constantly adding to the problems of the people.
He said it was an irony that the party that came into power on the promises of controlling load shedding and curtailing the prices, had been heading in the opposite direction. During the PML(N) rule, the energy crisis had worsened while the power tariff had been raised after every few days.
Liaqat Baloch also slated the statement of the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah that the deaths in Thar had been caused by poverty and not by hunger of which the people themselves were responsible. He said the PPP had been ruling the Sindh for the last forty years but the people there were still without basic needs. The masses in Sindh were the hostages of feudal lords and vaderas who opposed the setting up of schools and hospitals in their area. He said the Sindh Chief Minister had exposed the PPP’s myth of Roti, Kapra and makan.
