Government installed accelerated meters to plunder the masses: Dr Farid Ahmed Parach

Lahore: Deputy Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Dr Farid Ahmed Paracha, has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s directive for the reading of  the electricity meters after three months was a confirmation of the departmental fraud with the electricity consumers.

In a statement here on Sunday, he said that the issue of overbilling had surfaced weeks ago and it was followed by the reports that the new digital electricity meters were 35 per cent faster than the previous ones. He said there was no contradiction of this report nor any authority took notice of the matter. He said that instead of the strict accountability of the concerned department and officials, the Prime Minister had advised reading of electricity meters after three  months, which implied that the monthly electricity bills could be sent without reading. He said this was the worst form of the patronage of corruption.

He said the electricity tariff was constantly on the increase and instead of relieving the masses from the accelerated meters, the Prime Minister had give a free hand to the department to continue its illegal practices. He asked if there is any door open for the masses to knock at?
