Lahore: Omar Abdel Meguid of Egypt won the final match of the Serena Hotels-Chief of Air Staff International Squash Championship, 2014 played at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad. The final was a closely contested match which lasted for over an hour and was keenly watched by the spectators.
Aamir Atlas won the first two games easily with the game score 11/6,11/6. Omar Abdel Meguid came back in the match and won the third game with 11/4. In the fourth game Omar Abdel Meguid kept on his winning spree and managed to win it with 11/5. In the final game Omar Abdel Meguid kept his cool and won the game with the score 13/11.
Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, who is also the President of Pakistan Squash Federation, was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The Chief Guest awarded trophies to the players.
Foreign diplomats, former World Champions Geoff Hunt, Qamar Zaman and Jansher Khan along with a large number of squash lovers from all walks of life witnessed the match.
It is heartening to note that International Squash Players from different countries participated in 25 thousand US Dollar prize money tournament. It is a matter of satisfaction that International Squash has returned to Pakistan after a lapse of 7 years.
