Liaqat Baloch condemns levy of twenty Paisa per unit Equalization Surcharge

Lahore:  Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has strongly condemned the levy of Twenty Paisa per unit Equalization Surcharge on the electricity consumers and has demanded its immediate withdrawal.

In a statement here on Monday, Liaqat Baloch said that the PML (N) came into power on the election manifesto of reducing electricity tariff and overcoming load shedding, but it had been raising the power tariff with every passing day thus adding to the miseries of the general public.

The JI Secretary General said that the statement by the Ministry for Water and Power that the Equalization surcharge would not be a burden on the consumers was a crude joke.  The question, he said, was that if this was not a burden on the masses, who would bear this burden?

He said that the Ministry for Water and Power would earn additional Rs. 4 billion under this head and this would be extortion from the public by the state.
