Punjab government shown a splendid performance during flood: PM Nawaz Sharif

Lahore: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that Punjab government led by Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has taken exemplary measures for the welfare of the people and progress of the province. He said that the way Shahbaz Sharif has served the flood affected people round the clock is unprecedented.

He said that Shahbaz Sharif has set a noble example of public service and efforts for the prosperity of the people and progress of the province. He congratulated Chief Minister Punjab, elected representatives and provincial administration over the success of ongoing welfare programmes for provision of basic amenities to the poor masses and raising their living standard.

The Prime Minister said that Punjab government showed a splendid performance in the payment of first installment of financial assistance to the flood affectees. He hoped that due to the efforts of the government, the process of rehabilitation and provision of compensation to the calamity-hit people will soon be completed.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting at Model Town, here today. Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was also present. The meeting reviewed in detail development projects, rehabilitation of flood affectees and the programme of provision of financial assistance to the calamity-hit people.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that welfare and betterment of people is the agenda of Pakistan Muslim League-N and development projects are being completed expeditiously for the benefit of the masses. He said that no hurdle can hamper the process of national development. He said that people have given five years’ mandate to Muslim League-N and no effort will be spared during this period for the uplift and prosperity of the masses besides steering the country out of crises and putting it on the road to progress and development. He said that Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab government set an example of public service by working day and night for the rehabilitation of flood affectees. He congratulated Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, elected representatives and provincial administration over their performance in this regard. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed the hope that due to sincere efforts of the government, the process of rehabilitation and payment of financial assistance to the flood affectees will be completed at the earliest.

Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, while speaking on the occasion, said that development projects are being completed speedily and transparently in the province while third party audit system has also been introduced for the effective monitoring of the projects. He said that development schemes have been completed in a record period in Lahore and other areas of Punjab. He said that process of payment of the first installment of financial assistance to the flood-hit people has been completed expeditiously and in a transparent manner while in the next phase second installment of compensation will be given to the flood affectees for the damage to their houses and crops on the basis of survey. He said that 50 per cent of the amount of financial assistance to the flood affectees has been provided by the Punjab government while the remaining half by the federal government for which he is thankful to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the federal government.

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Muslim League-N government is making every effort for the progress and welfare of the masses. He said that nefarious designs of the elements who were trying to hamper the process of national development have failed and the journey toward progress and prosperity will continue during next five years as well, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

The meeting was given a detailed briefing on development projects in Punjab and the rehabilitation as well as payment of financial compensation to the flood affectees. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appreciated Azadi Chowk project and lauded the performance of Director General LDA. Federal Minster for Railways Kh. Saad Rafique, Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz, Chief Secretary Punjab, Chairman Planning & Development, Commissioner Lahore Division, DG LDA and concerned officers were present on the occasion.
