Lahore: Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin has said that a comprehensive mechanism has been evolved for stabilizing the prices of essential items in the province. He directed that administrative officers should fully implement the strategy adopted by the government so that prices could be controlled in the post-flood situation.
He was presiding over a high level meeting of Price Control Committee Punjab at Civil Secretariat, here today. Secretaries of Agriculture and Industries Departments, Commissioner Lahore and DCOs attended the meeting.
A detailed briefing was given to the Provincial Minister by administrative officers of the whole province regarding the measures taken for stabilizing prices of essential commodities in the province. The district officers informed Minister Food that due to hurdles in the cultivation of land and transportation of essential items in flood-hit areas there is a trend of increase in the prices of some essential items.
However, they said, a watchful eye is being kept on the rates of daily use items at district level and action is being taken against the elements involved in price-hike and profiteering. They also informed that heavy fines are being imposed on those involved in hoarding and adulteration.
The Minister directed administrative officers that no effort be spared in the supply of necessary items to the people especially in flood-hit areas. He warned that those creating hurdles in the provision of daily use items to the citizens at the fixed rates will be dealt with an iron hand.
