Lahore: Provincial Minister for Food, Bilal Yasin presided over a meeting of price control committee at Civil Secretariat today in which secretaries of concerned departments were present. The Minister was given a detailed briefing on the prices of food items in the wake of recent flood. The Minister directed that stability of prices in the province should be ensured while quality daily use items could be provided to the masses at affordable rates through Sahulat Bazaars.
He warned that hoarding and profiteering will not be tolerated in the post flood situation. He directed concerned officials to ensure that essential items are available to the consumers at the rates fixed by the government. Bilal Yasin made it clear that keeping essential items within the reach of the common man is the top priority of the government.
Later, Bilal Yasin accompanied by DCO Lahore Capt. Retd. Muhammad Usman visited Gulshan-e-Ravi, Shadman and Gulberg markets and reviewed the implementation of the measures taken by the government for provision of quality daily use items to the citizens at affordable rates.
He directed district administration that special measures should be taken for supply of fruits and vegetables to the masses at cheaper rates. He also directed that stern action be taken against the shopkeepers who do not display rate lists at their shops.
He also issued instructions that hoarders and profiteers as well as those creating artificial shortage of daily use items should be dealt with an iron hand so that prices of essential items should be stabilized.
