Lahore: Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation and Finance Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that government has adopted the policy of computerization and e-technology in government affairs and encouraging results are being witnessed especially in the recovery of taxes. He said that property, token and services taxes are the major source of income of the government and modern computerized technology is being introduced for improving the system of receipt of taxes as good governance and elimination of corruption is the mission of Punjab government.
He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding motor registration number plates, Secretary Excise & Taxation, Director General and senior officials attended the meeting.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said that the department is considering issuance of non-changeable motor vehicles number plates and these numbers plates will be issued by Excise & Taxation Department and will have the qualities of checking theft of vehicles. He said that it is also considered to introduce uniform number plates across the province and citizens can contact Excise office of their respective city for this purpose but number plates will be issued from Lahore with the same series across the province. He said that motor vehicle number plats will have the latest qualities of security features and identification of the vehicles would be easier than the present system.
He said that with the launching of new motor vehicle number plats the department will have the capacity to dispose off the back log of the existing number plates. He said that online collection of token tax, property tax and other taxes from Bank of Punjab, Ufone, Master card and other departments is also under consideration so that payment of tax could be made simple and easy and citizens will be able to pay their tax at any franchise in any part of the country.
