Lahore: A close associate of Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maudoodi and a senior member of the Jamaat e islami, Muhammad Yousuf Khan, breathed his last in the city on Monday, He was the husband of renowned Muslim scholar late Maryam Jamila, who renounced Judaism and embraced Islam after studying the writings of Maulana Maudoodi. The deceased was 92 and has left behind five sons and seven daughters from two wives.
Ameer, JI, Pakistan, Sirajul Haq, led the funeral prayer of Yousuf Khan.The funeral was attended by JI deputy chiefs Prof. Khurshid Ahmed, Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, Rashid Naseem, Mian Muhammad Aslam and Asadullah Bhutto, JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, besides large number of people from different walks of life. The deceased was laid to rest at the Allama Iqbal Town graveyard close to the grave of another JI veteran Syed Asad Gilani.
The JI chief paid tributes to Muhammad Yousuf Khan. He said that the deceased had dedicated his life for the service of Islam and Pakistan. The deceased was elected Councilor of his area three times and was awarded commendation certificates by the Lahore Municipal Corporation for his excellent work.
Talking to the media at the spot, Sirajul Haq said that the Opposition Jirga had given its suggestions to the government and the protesting parties for a respectable way out of the political crisis but neither side had given its reply so far.” We want the parties to sort out the issues through dialogue”, he added.
He said even if the sit in continued for another one hundred days, no harm should come to the constitution and the democratic system. “We don’t want anybody to add fuel to the fire”, he said. “We are not a party to the issue, instead we are striving for a solution”. He said the whole nation desired that the political situation returned to normalcy at the earliest. He said the situation was becoming more complicated with every passing day and all the three parties were in trouble.
