Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Sirajul Haq, has impressed upon the government to stop the arrests being made in Islamabad in order to create an atmosphere conducive for dialogue.
Addressing a big public meeting at Buner on Sunday, he said the talks had been suspended due to the arrests and it was the government’s responsibility to end the deadlock. If the arrests were continued, the talks process would not be resumed and peace would remain a dream. JI provincial chief, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim khan, also addressed the meeting.
Sirajul Haq said that that the Opposition Jirga had worked hard to advance the talks but the arrests of the PTI and PAT workers during the last couple of days had harmed the process and resulted in deadlock. “ We earnestly desire to resolve the crisis through dialogue”. He said if the government wanted the sit-ins to come to an end peacefully, it would have to act prudently and show patience and tolerance. He reiterated that both the side would have to show flexibility and take one step backward in the larger interest of the country and the nation.
He said that the entire country had been hit by worst floods. Hundreds of habitations had been devastated by rains and flood water. Crops over vast areas had been washed away and hundreds of people had been killed. In this time of national calamity, we must prove ourselves a single nation and come out for the help of the flood hit millions. However, this was possible only if the political crisis was resolved and the attention of the people was concentrated on the single issue of floods.
