Lahore: Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, undertook an emergency visit to district Toba Tek Singh and salvaged over one lakh people from fatal flood through safety measures in the area.
According to details, DG SBP also established eight emergency flood relief camps in the areas of Toba Tek Singh, Peer Mehal, Kamalia, Maoza Ravi Khokhar, Jhallar Shagla and Chak No 736. The eight flood relief camps were equipped with several vital medicines, doctors and paramedical staff.
DG SBP also took emergency measures to strengthen the Muhammad Shah Wala, RMB and Klera safety barriers in three cities of Toba Tek Singh, Peer Mehal and Kamalia. The poor people were also evacuated from the flood-hit area. He deputed several district officers in flood-hit vicinities to serve the affected people.
Usman Anwar met with various people in the flood-affected localities where the masses have expressed their satisfaction on the measures taken by the government during floods.
According to a report, a large area of 12909 acres in 55 villages of tehsil Kamalia and Peer Mehal have been swept by floods in the past years which caused hefty losses to farmers of the region. However, DG SBP, through his timely measures, rescued a vast area of 129715 acres, 127272 people and 97 villages from the lethal floods.
