Lahore: Nishtar Park Sports Complex is going to become a complete sports city where we can hold international sports events like Asian Games and SAF Games in near future; this was stated by Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar after inspecting the construction work of International Tennis Stadium here on Thursday.
During his visit, Usman checked the different part of tennis stadium. He also examined the sports infrastructure, security check post and construction work of security wall around the Punjab Stadium. After watching the work, he admired the construction skills of contractors.
Talking to media, DG SBP informed that all the sporting facilities in Nishtar Park Sports Complex will be completed within a few months time. “The govt has issued all the pending funds and all the contractors have been advised to complete the construction work as early as possible,” he added.
Answering a question, Usman Anwar said that international teams will find all top level facilities at one place and that time is not far when we will be able to organize international sports like rest of the world,” he said in a determined tone.
When asked about the sporting potential in Pakistan he told that there was plenty of talent in our country. “We are taking all the measures to preserve the emerging talent. Every kind of help is being extended to young players and that’s the major reason we are getting adequate talent in all sports,” he added. “Our world class kabaddi team is a big proof in this regard. SBP kabaddi team Lahore Lions have won their all three matches in World Kabaddi League in England India which is a gigantic achievement,” he claimed.
He said that Pakistan will host the WKL matches against American, Canadian, English and Indian kabaddi teams in November and subsequently the final of World Kabaddi League which is a big accomplishment for our country. “A large number of sports fans are expected to visit our country on that occasion. Over 5000 Indian tourists are likely to visit Pakistan on that occasion,” he explained.
Usman further said that the doors of SBP are open for all talented players. “We are inviting potential youngsters from across the country for a proper training under the umbrella of SBP,” he described.
To a question, DG SBP told that as around 55 international teams will be coming to Pakistan to feature in the second phase of International Sports Festival. “Several countries have expressed their willingness to feature in the International Sports Festival events,” he elaborated.
