England captain Edwards moves up to 2nd place in batting list

Lahore: England captain Charlotte Edwards has jumped five places to second position in the Reliance ICC Women’s Rankings for ODI Batters after leading her side to a 2-0 series victory over India in the opening round of the ICC Women’s Championship.Charlotte Edwards

 

Edwards recorded scores of 53 and 108 not out, her ninth One-Day International (ODI) century, in the first two ODIs to propel her side to a 2-0 victory after the third match at Lord’s was declared a no result on Monday due to rain.

 

India skipper Mithali Raj has retained her place at the top of the batting rankings with scores of 34 and 30, respectively, to be the second-highest run-scorer for her side in the series, while her teammate Smriti Mandhana was the biggest mover on the table, jumping 23 places to a career-high 40th, following her knocks of 32 and 74.

 

In the Reliance ICC Women’s Rankings for ODI Bowlers, England’s Jenny Gunn has moved up to two places to second, her highest ranking to date, after claiming five victims in two matches at an economy rate of 2.95. Gunn has also moved up one place to fourth on the all-rounder list.

 

Other players moving in the right direction include India’s Rajeshwari Gayakwad, the second highest wicket-taker of the series who has risen 37 spots to reach a career-best ranking of 48th  after claiming four wickets for 42 runs.

 

In the second series played, Australia defeated visitor Pakistan 3-0 in Brisbane, with batter Jessica Cameron finishing the series with an impressive average of 84.00 to secure her seventh place position in the batting table.

 

Pakistan’s Bismah Maroof has jumped two places to 13th after scores of 53, 26 and 36.  For Australia, Nicole Bolton (up 37 spots to 53) and Jess Jonassen (up 16 to 66th) were the biggest movers in the batting table.

 

In the bowling table, Pakistan captain Sana Mir moved up four places to sixth after consistent economical displays of 3-28, 2-27 and 0-31 with the ball to be the second highest wicket-taker of the series, with Qanita Jalil jumping 10 spots to 16th place.

 

Australian medium-paced bowler Sarah Coyte has moved up four places to 19th in the bowling rankings after producing spells of 2-27, 1-20 and 2-41.

 

West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor is unchanged as the world’s leading bowler and all-rounder as it currently stands and the 23-year-old Jamaican is set to feature in the West Indies-New Zealand series which will take place in St. Kitts on September 12, 14 and 17.

 

The Sri Lanka-South Africa fixtures will be announced in due course.

 

With two of the four series of the first round of the ICC Women’s Championship played, the table is led by Australia, with England one point behind.
