Lahore: Lahore Lions kabaddi team thrashed Punjab Thunder by 64-44 in the 12th match of the World Kabaddi League 2014 at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on Sunday night. It was Lahore Lions’ third successive triumph in the 8-team mega kabaddi event.
According to information made available here, SBP’s Lahore Lions topped the points table along with Khalsa Warriors, with six points each. Punjab Thunder lost two matches and won one match so far in the league. Last week Lahore Lions defeated Royal Kings USA while Punjab Thunder defeated California Eagles during the matches played in England.
The first quarter started on a poised note where both the team showed good team effort to maintain a healthy competition between them. Lahore Lions’ Shafiq Chishti and Lala Saifullah were as invincible as before leading the number of raids for the team. Sarabjit Singh and Satwinder Singh from Punjab Thunder too were exemplary on their approach in keeping the point’s margin narrow. The quarter ended with a point’s tally of 16 -12 with Lahore Lions having an edge over the Punjab Thunder of 4 points lead.
In the second quarter, both the teams looked fully composed and did quite a few successful raids. Punjab Thunder though was trailing with 4 points but they started the raid on a very positive manner and started the match by successfully converting the first raid into a point.
On the contrary, Lahore Lions not only maintained the lead but also kept on widening the point difference. Punjab Thunder tried their best to come back in the game but continued to lose points. Lahore Lions played a very impressive match and took the lead to 11 points difference with final score of 33-22 at the end of half time of the match.
In the 3rd quarter, Lahore Lions were heading for a knock out of their opponent. It started with flurry of attacks from both the teams. Lahore Lions stoppers Naeem Sindhu and Ramzan shattered the raids made by the players of Punjab Thunder. Akmal Shahzad Dogar and Shafiq Chishti of Lahore Lions led from the front and paved the victory path for their team with 11 points lead. The final points tally was 47–36 at the end of third quarter.
Lahore Lions wrapped up the match in whirlwind fashion. They completed their victory over Punjab Thunder with reasonable lead of 20 points lead. The final points tally was read as 64–44.
Meanwhile,Punjab Minister for Law and Sports Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan and Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar showered massive praise on SBP Lahore Loins kabaddi team after their third victory in a row in World Kabaddi League 2014. In his laudatory message, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan congratulated the victorious kabaddi team and the entire nation on this gigantic performance. “Our team kept their winning spree intact in India as well and lived upto the expectations of the nation. They made their opponents helpless through their highly professional game,” he said while admiring the kabaddi skills of Lahore Lions players.
DG SBP Usman Anwar, in his message said that he was quite impressed by the performance of Pakistan team, which completed a hat-trick of victories against some top outfits of the world. “Our team was among the best kabaddi sides of the world at the start of WKL event but after recording three major victories, they have turned out to be the hot favourites for the WKL title,” described.
