Government has acquired 500 kanal of Punjab University

Government has acquired 500 kanal of Punjab UniversityLahore: Government of the Punjab and the administration of Punjab University Lahore have reached an agreement to construct a 2-kilometre new road in the premises of Punjab University, New Campus to link Maulana Shaukat Ali Road to Wahdat Road, Lahore with a cost of Rs.1.7 billion.

An ‘MoU’ in this regard was signed, here today, in the presence of Provincial Minister for Education and Law, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan at Punjab University. Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujahid Kamran and Director General LDA Ahad Khan Cheema signed the MoU. Chairman LTC Khawaja Ahmed Hassaan and other notables were also present.

Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan while talking to media on this occasion, said that the government of Punjab has acquired 500 kanal land for this purpose from Punjab University.

In lieu of that, the administration of Punjab University  has been allowed to construct commercial buildings on the both sides of the proposed 2-kilo metre long new road. The Minister said, the project was in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to make public sector universities self-sufficient in their financial requirements. The people of Lahore will also benefit from this project, the Minister added.

On a question, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan emphasized the need to focus on the promotion of educational sector instead of creating chaos in the country. He congratulated all the political forces and civil society which has played a positive role in strengthening the democratic process in Pakistan and have rejected the forces of destruction. The existence and progress of Pakistan was dependent on peace and the rule of law in the country which can only be achieved through abiding by the Constitution of Pakistan, the Minister concluded.
