Lahore: Provincial Minister for Environment Col. Retd. Shuja Khanzada has said that missing facilities have been provided in district offices after reorganization of the department on scientific lines and bringing it at par with international standard. Therefore, all district environment officers should pay special attention to their work and improve their performance by benefitting from the available facilities, he added.
He said this while addressing a function of distribution of equipments relating to information technology and transport for district offices in the office of Secretary Environment here today. Secretary Environment Muhammad Anwar Rasheed, Director General Environment Farooq Hameed Sheikh, all district environment officers and media-men were also present on the occasion. Provincial Minister said that it is need of hour to control the increasing environmental pollution as number of deaths due to pollution in more than the natural deaths.
Col. Retd. Shuja Khazdana while distributing the 34 motorcycles, 12 digital cameras, 9 multi media projectors, 9 scanners, 9 laptops and 12 fax machines among district environment officers expressed the hope that they will protect the transport and equipments like their personal property and improve their performance by benefitting from these facilities. He said that due to android digital cameras, field staff will be able to provide pictorial proof along with their reports.
Talking to the media-men on the occasion, Provincial Minister told that vehicles are also being provided at Rahim Yar Khan, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Sheikhupura which will work as mobile laboratories and results will be obtained by getting samples on the spot. He further said that the air quality monitoring section which was closed for the last three years has been activated and now these sections are working at Town Hall and Township whereas a modern mobile laboratory also existed through which air quality of any city, area or place can be monitored.
Secretary Environment Muhammad Anwar Rasheed said that a complaint management system has been prepared in Directorate General Environment through which performance of officers and officials in the filed will also be checked. Later, Provincial Minister and Secretary Environment distributed IT equipments and keys of motorcycles among the officers. They stressed upon the officers to further improve their performance.
